Looking for information on 2 speed rear end

I’m new to this forum and have a question about what I think s a 2 speed rear end on my 1911 Buick model 33. What is it? After market equipment? Period original?

Talked to my "Buick Guy", who said : " I am not registered on that forum, so please pass on this info…. The 1911 Buick Models 32 & 33 used the 165 cu in engine (the same as in my 12 Roadster and my 15 speedster). Both models were factory equipped with an “automatic high speed clutch release”. I believe this is what may look like a two speed rear end. I called another BCA member who owns a 1911 Model 33 and he said it was for “free wheeling”." Is this any help?

Plum line, thanks for your response. I guess that when I get it started and running, I’ll soon know. As for disingadging the driveline from the rear end, for a free wheeling experience, that’s a bit of a scary thought. That would mean braking would be limited to the hand brake to rear wheels.
I’ve made contact with the local HCCA club, and plan to meet up with some local experts.

An update on my post. I believe what I have is a Planator made by Star. It is an underdrive and functions
Iike a Ruckstell. Thanks to MTFCA for this info. Apparently another version was the Jumbo Planator made for Ford conversions, or what could be called a poor mans Ruckstell.
