C T Ham Comet Repairs COMPLETED with Images

Post by daddyrabbit » Fri Jun 12, 2020 11:36 am

Hello folks, first post.
I have a Ham Comet in need of repair. I have reached out several ways and several times to the folks at veteranautolamps with no luck. Anyone with knowledge of their status?
Recommendations for a lamp repair shop?
A few dents, a little solder work and move a bracket.
Thanks for your help.

Hello Van,
I have had Rick Britten of Britten Brass Works restore several lamps, including the last lamp I had built which I will picture here, (Locomobile script tail light). This lamp was built using the best parts of three lamps to build one solid lamp and it turned out beautiful. (Not cheap) Lamp restoration is one of those areas, of a restoration, that is either very eye catching or eye detracting. The phone number for Rick is: 269-979-3928

Hello Van,
Good luck with your lamp repair. Rick is a good guy and will do his best to give you a good product. He is old school, if it is worth doing it is worth doing right. How about posting a "Before" and then an "After" picture of your lamp to be restored?

Your Sears Motor Buggy is not listed in the Sears Registry... it would be nice to do so, that way Current & Past ownership can be recorded.

To do so, http://searsmotorbuggy.com/Sears_registry.php

If you have not seen this site, you are in for a BIG treat about the Sears Motor Buggys

If you contact me via email, I will send both parts of the Registry

How much additional restoration does your Sears need? It is nice that you are receiving a "Tip" or two and maybe some advice also. SHare a picture of your project....

What did you learn from Rick B. on lamp restoration. I have also used another source, for brass lamp repair, that is very satisfactory also. Curious if things are moving in the direction you desire.

1909 Sears Model J #2232

Here are a few images of the car. I will write up the history soon and post for posterity. Its a cool story.
The car is restored and running well. All the brass disappeared in the 1930's -my grandfather said it was hooligans sneaking in the barn. That has been the last thing I have needed to finish the restoration. I have a horn but its not original. I also need the Motsinger Plug Switch which is missing. Otherwise shes almost there. The car starts and runs well.

Hello van,
Nice Sears and pictures that show how it was years ago. You have done a very nice job. When you get your write-up finished, on the history, that will even add more to your Sears automobile....

All,
The Comet lamps are done and back in my hands. I am well pleased. While Rick Britten of Britten Brass Works was contacted I ended up trading with Wayne Simoni in California for the restoration. The price was way more in my budget and a concours restoration was not needed. Rick was backed up 6 months plus and Wayne had them back in my hands in 3 weeks!

All pictures attached are from AFTER the restoration. I will create another message with the BEFORE images.

Regards to all, stay safe.

I am glad that your lamp repair/restoration has turned out to be a good experience for you. Your Sears will be greatly enhanced with the addition of your restored lights. Wayne is a good guy. I enjoy to see the before and after pictures you shared. That points out that we each can make progress on our antique automobile projects. I would be happy to show you lamps on my auto!
