Tour Chairs, Jerry and Jan Neil, planned and executed a wonderful tour. Forty -four cars drove the routes and eighty-eight members and friends went along for the rides. Jan was very creative in putting together the itinerary booklet, noting committee members and donations, listing tour details, offering maps, trivia and local restaurant info - all color coded by day, in plastic and sealed with a brass clip for wind protection!

The group traveled along historic CA Route 49 and it’s adjoining side roads to visit wineries, mini-museums, beautiful flower gardens, antique shops, historic buildings and a working gold mine. Everyone’s cars enjoyed the smooth roads and great trouble truck drivers’ support and assistance, when needed, and managed to stay in a positive touring mode, even when the skies turned grey and the rain drops appeared. Each day there were many opportunities for friends to visit and catch up on family and club activities, as well as, help one another with technical questions and current restoration solutions. Also included one evening was a living history presentation about the gold rush era and after our final day closing brunch, the “Peoples’ Choice, President’s Choice and “perpetual” Trouble Trophy awards were presented.

So, in the end, the ladies and gents had a great time driving the foothill lanes, sharing their hobby with the local residents of each area visited, dressing well for each occasion, eating delicious meals, experiencing modern gold mining 1000 feet down, giving the cars a good exercise each day and closing with a safe trailer drive home. And remember what JN said, “ FYI: You may offer “suggestions”; However, if you technically “complain” more than twice…you are automatically next year’s tour chair.” Happy touring.
