Re: Brass Lamp covers

Lang's sells protective covers for lamps, carbide generators, speedometers and horns. If you have a Model T or a car with similar-sized accessories, they should do a good job. If you have a great hairy-chested beast, they won't. But Lang's would probably tell you who supplies their stuff, if you nee...

Re: New member interested in steam carriages

Sorry. Not a clue. But I suspect the idea of a friendly deal with someone in a more sensible state might be the way to go. I wonder whether one of the specialty insurers would have some thoughts. Hagerty is based in Michigan. Ask them. I imagine the worst that could happen is that they'd tell you th...

Re: New member interested in steam carriages

The HCCA 1&2 will be on the eastern shore of Maryland in September. Very flat roads, but interesting things to see. There's a VMCCA 1&2 in Marysville, OH in early June; you have to be a VMCCA member to join it. Also, talk to John Grace about the Lansing-Dearborn run just before the Old Car Festival....

Re: New member interested in steam carriages

Welcome, Ron! Where are you? I don't have anything quite as old as your Locomobile, but I have an '07 one-cylinder Cadillac and a 10-horse 1911 Stanley. Maybe we'll meet up at a 1&2-cylinder tour.

Who in Blazes is Clarence Carpenter?

The 2019 HCCA Convention at Sea is over. Actually, it wasn’t all at sea; the last meeting of the old board and the first meeting of the new board, as well as the banquet and membership meeting, took place on dry land in Tampa. In between, there was a 5-day Caribbean cruise on the Carnival Paradise. ...

First VMCCA Meet 1939

This wonderful movie was posted on the AACA website. All these cars were about 30 years old at the time. "Restoration" might have meant changing the oil. Curl up somewhere comfortable with the beverage of your choice, and enjoy! https://forums.aaca.org/topic/319749-then-and-now-where-did-these-prewa...

Overflow Tank for 1907 Cadillac Model K

The galvanized tank I installed 15 years ago has rusted through. Jerome Hubert isn't making them any more. Does anyone have a source? I ought to have eschewed originality and bought a stainless steel one, and will gladly do so now if one is presented.

It's either a 1928-29 Model A Ford roadster, or a modern replica called a Shay.

Hung Over in a Barnyard!

The weather covered most of the bases during Hershey and the Seventh Hangover. Hot and humid Wednesday, rain Thursday, cold and dry Friday, some rain Saturday morning but improvement later, intermittent light rain Sunday and Monday, cold and dry on Tuesday. The rain produced some no-shows on the fie...

Re: 2018 AACA/HCCA Reliability Tour

No, because I was saving space in my trailer to pick up my one-lung Cadillac on the way home. If the Cadillac had been ready, I could have driven it on this tour. The driving days were reasonable, the roads weren't crowded, and there weren't many hills. And Bob and Liz Bailey's Maxwell could have pa...

2018 AACA/HCCA Reliability Tour

The AACA’s biennial Reliability Tour for pre-1916 cars has, in recent years, morphed into a joint national tour with HCCA. Two AACA Regions (Genessee Valley Antique Car Society and Wayne Drumlins Region – more about drumlins later!) joined with HCCA’s Rochester RG under the leadership of Steve and P...

Re: Mochet Velo

Ye cats! That video ought to be posted to the Model T website. There are frequent concerns expressed about whether it's safe to drive a T on modern roads because of, among other deficiencies, a lack of passenger protection. Compared to that contraption, a T is as solid as a tank!

Re: Stunning, Stupendously Steaming Stanleys!

I hadn't saved the article after posting here. But I had sent it to Tracy Lesher as an e-mail to see whether she could use it for the Gazette, When she found she had no space for this non-HCCA event, I posted it here. I forwarded that old e-mail to Brad, who had been able to salvage the pictures (bu...

Stunning, Stupendously Steaming Stanleys!

This year’s eastern steam tour featured a return to Auburn Heights, the Delaware home of the Marshall Steam Museum and its extensive collection of Stanleys. Tom Marshall’s grandfather, a mill owner and paper manufacturer, built the family mansion in 1897. Tom’s father, a Stanley dealer back in the d...

Coast to Coast in Two Brass Ts

Don Rising, his two sons, and two grandsons are driving a couple of 1911 Model Ts across the country, on back roads, and sometimes on dirt roads. They're blogging their tour here.

Re: Rebuild Improvements for Reliability 1909 Locomobile

I've just been helping to proofread the next Gazette. It will have a display ad for Hildebran Designs, that does custom castings. One of the objects in their ad is a Locomobile hubcap. This is not an endorsement; I'd never heard of them before today.

Jeff, I blush to confess I don't remember which model Schebler my car has. It was on the car when I got it. Here's a picture of it. The auxiliary air valve is the leftmost part of the picture, facing forward in the car. To hold it open, you have to reach underneath and push up.
