Al I used 4140 which is a very good all round tool steel. You require a steel that is strong and tuff but not hard and brittle. I use 4140 for hub bolts and King pins which then get heat treated and ground,same with shackle bolts. Very nice to machine and get nice threads without any tears on the fl...

Al I would check with the person who made your spokes,there is in my opinion too large of gap between some of the spokes that must be addressed,before any refinishing is done. In requards to the torque of the wheel bolts that is a trick question without knowing what material they are made out of and...

We bought silver cloth from the local fabric store. A jewelry store might order it in but cost more. We then made outer “bags” of cheap cotton, about the same as you make a duster coat out of. Should it not be de whiskering. If you have a choice of water Bourne that is good for your health or solvent base which is bad,guess what the bad stuff always gives a superior finish. Cheers pete

Al you are quite the wood worker,very nice. Decide if you wish to stain the box a particular shade then use modern clear coat two part paint it will last a lifetime cheers pete

Al make sure all surfaces are clean and assemble dry. I also made my own socket and used a 1/2 drive power bar(johnson bar). Don’t like striking wrenches that you were looking at in the earlier posts cheers pete

Al Macmaster. Carr put in copper crush gasket. If you can not get the proper size get the smaller size and stretch the ring to fit by using a tapered mandrel. Cheers Pete
