Re: 1910 Overland restoration

Good Morning Jack, My Tip for the day is for you to lay low and get past the "bug". This is a good time for you to spend some time contemplating your remedy and how to get your carb. back together and in better form that when it was new! You have a "cold" and over here it is "cold". I have some outs...

Re: Rebuild Improvements for Reliability 1909 Locomobile

While working on the design for the spark plug wiring loom, I am also working on getting my carburetor issue resolved. Here, I will post a few pictures of the evolution of the carburetors that my engine has seen. The first is the original all brass Locomobile carburetor. Second, is an early series a...

Re: 1910 Overland restoration

Good Morning Jack, Nice thinking on the Model A generator. It is rewarding when something comes together like it is supposed to. Now for your carburetor issue. I am anxious to hear how your solve/resolve the needle and seat issue. I am also on to a Carter BB-1, (late series 289SD) carburetor rebuild...

Re: 1910 Overland restoration

Hello Jack. Is the Model A still in the way? :D After close evaluation, do you have the room to spot face the body in preparation for the sealing area under and for the replaceable seat? How much meat do you think you have to deal with to run threads for the replaceable seat? Maybe to allow you to m...

Re: Rebuild Improvements for Reliability 1909 Locomobile

I am after a tip or a bit of advice regarding the building of brackets to attach a similar version of ht spark wiring looms for my project. Take a look at the pictures and share your thoughts. What are the thoughts for a good choice of wood to build these loom pieces from?

Re: 1910 Overland restoration

hmmm, considering what you told me about the float and arm. You could likely change the position of the float to the arm by shimming or some other method rather than even trying to flex the arm in order to get the geometry your need for proper function. That is my tip or thought on this subject. Now...

Re: POST YOUR BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES

Here is a "before" picture of my 1909 Locomobile engine. Those with a sharp eye will notice the provision this engine has to originally run with a "Make and Break" ignition system. Second is an "After" picture of the same engine after complete rebuild and first run. How exhilarating that first run w...

Re: 1910 Overland restoration

Hello Jack, I thought that Overland cars had a sliding gear transaxle? That should make it a piece of cake to drive it. Do you have a picture of how the float arm is mounted? Is it just pinned or bolted? If it is bolted, you could shim to the height you need. If pinned in place, you may need to anne...

Re: 1910 Overland restoration

Looks like you have a plan. Does it look like you can keep the geometry correct between the float height and the new elevation of the replacement seat? That dimension and geometry is important to keep right so the carb. will function as it is supposed to, from my experience. Do you have any other si...

Re: Rebuild Improvements for Reliability 1909 Locomobile

Here is a question for this group. This 1909 Locomobile utilizes a "full floating" rear axle design. That means the actual rear axle is held in place simply with the rear hubcap. On this car, as well as others that use a full floating rear axles, can have an issue with oil leaking out of the hubcap....
