Re: Rebuild Improvements for Reliability 1909 Locomobile

The "TIP" of the day... What tip can be shared about how we are using our time during this Coronavirus Pandemic event that has the attention of the whole world? My aspect for a "TIP", is to spend some quiet time and actually do some specific planning on your restoration project, in my case the Locom...

Re: Rebuild Improvements for Reliability 1909 Locomobile

I have been thinking a bunch about Brass and the way it looks, with Coronavirus, we may have more time on our hands to mess in the garage than we have thought! It also appears that our usual Swap Meet shopping may be shut down for this year. So, I will try to post a "Tip" to keep us up and thinking....

Re: Rebuild Improvements for Reliability 1909 Locomobile

I have received a "TIP" about a Foundry in Pa. Does anyone have knowledge of the "Cattail" foundry. If the responses are good, regarding this reference, I would like to give "Cattail" a try for a couple of castings I need for the 1909 Locomobile as well as a couple of other projects.

Re: Rebuild Improvements for Reliability 1909 Locomobile

Here is my "TIP" for the day. It is important to keep "enthused" on whatever project you may be working on. This is my inspiration, a picture of the same model Locomobile that I am restoring and this picture hangs right over my desk where I see it every day. It does help to keep me as focused as pos...

Re: Rebuild Improvements for Reliability 1909 Locomobile

While you are considering if you know of and can refer me to a good smaller foundry that does "lost wax" type castings, I will share a "TIP" on a different subject. This tip involves using a good eye for small details that certainly help a car when fully restored. Shown below is a MFG. tag from an e...

Re: Rebuild Improvements for Reliability 1909 Locomobile

I have been thinking about the time frame and change from the "Brass" to "Nickle" in our early automobiles. Here is a picture of a cast brass cap that is Nickle plated. Who may be able to share some definitive information on what year Locomobile offered Nickle. Was it some of 1911, Some of 1912 or a...

Re: Rebuild Improvements for Reliability 1909 Locomobile

I am after another "TIP". While I am sourcing parts for the windshield assembly shown above, I also have another slight need for a top saddle missing locking lever. Below is a picture of a scalloped top saddle with the locking lever. This is the good and complete saddle I have. I also have a second ...

Re: Rebuild Improvements for Reliability 1909 Locomobile

Here is my unrestored heavy solid brass windshield hinges that are made for use on a Toy Tonneau style body. You will note that the hinge has two catches, one for the upright location of the upper frame while the bottom frame is positioned on about a 45 deg. angle. The other position allows the uppe...

Re: Rebuild Improvements for Reliability 1909 Locomobile

I am working on the windshield assembly for installation on the Locomobile. As this automobile is a Toy Tonneau with a cowling, the windshield will be a slant back on the lower section then up straight vertical. I need a "TIP" or two on how best to anchor the wood windshield base to the fire wall th...

Re: Magneto Question

In response to your thoughts on wiring up the mag to only act as a distributor. I think you are very close, (without seeing the exact wiring). Your switch leg would be on the hot side and would simply act to break the circuit open to "kill" the engine. You should be able to test your wiring and see ...
