color coded wiring

Post by GeorgeDuke » Mon Jan 22, 2018 2:27 pm

I need to rewire my 1914 Haynes. The wiring is original and all of it looks to be black, uncolored, with no identification tags or whatever. I am guessing it has simply lost all color with age; does anyone know when color coding of wiring began?
Thanks,

George

Hi George
I can't help you on when the color coding started but my 14 Premier also has what appears to be black wiring.

George,

What model do you have? According to my wiring book, earlier Hayes were probably black as the book does not show any colors for wiring. But in 1918 the wires were generally black with a tracer like yellow or orange.

Thanks Ken. From everything I have learned they were all black at that time. It will be 'fun' to rewire!

Thanks Larry. My car is a 1914 Haynes Model 27 7 passenger touring. To my knowledge there is only one other that is located somewhere in or around Nevada. I didn't want to cut into the harness until I knew more and possibly had new materials on hand but I guess that's out.
