locomobile surrey

Post by jjtjr » Mon Jul 01, 2013 5:54 pm

Looking for info on locomobile surrey, My locomobile was in an accident last week. It was in a trailer and I was coming from a car show. I was stopped to make a left turn and was hit from the rear at 45 mph. The trailer and car inside were severely damaged. The frame is bent. I'm looking for frame info on the surrey what side tubes are used and what is the wall thickness.

You might try the Stanley Museum. They have some information on Stanley/Locomobiles.

Sorry about your accident. I'm glad you weren't drive the Locomobile. What year is this model? Does your car have the original chassis? I'm wondering why you can't measure the wall thickness from that.

Since the frame was bent I was going extend it into a surrey.

A bit out of the way, but there is a Locomobile Surrey at the Beamish Museum in the UK:

Another recently sold in the UK:

That's a pretty basic chassis; looks like two pipes! I think the museum might be able to help, as they have an educational theme.

I recently heard that Don Eckel in Washington, NJ, is going onto the steam car repair business. He's very close to you in Glen Gardner. Don has been involved in steam for decades. He may be able to help you.

You might try a search for information at the Horseless Carriage Library's website: http://www.hcfi.org/search.php

Some of their material is online and you can submit a Research Request to see what other information they have:
https://hcfi.org/ResearchRequest.php

Hope to see your Locomobile back on the road soon.
