Early Maxwell Group

Post by TenParry » Tue Aug 20, 2013 6:47 pm

Is there an early Maxwell group associated with HCCA? (like the Reo and Buick groups? I am considering purchasing a 2cyl Maxwell and would like to communicate with other owners.

Yes there is a similar Yahoo group:

I love Maxwell's too. I don't if its the styling or their history but they're fascinating vehicles. The Maxwell I saw at a car show was about 1991 when I drove my Edsel. The owner was trying to start and I was impressed because it still had a chain drive. I think it was a 1903 or 04. Good luck in your search.

Maxwells are great cars, but I don't believe they ever had chain drive.

It has been a while since that car show which had hundreds of antique cars attending. I looked on line to see if I could find the car that would jog my memory but with further research I discovered that the Maxwell which was launched in 1904 was known for its shaft drive instead of the customary chain drive they used at the time. I did see a chain drive in that car but it wasn't a Maxwell even though I saw Maxwell's that day. Thanks for the correction and sorry about the mistake to all current Maxwell owners.
