Who builds wood wheels, west coast or other

Post by alsfarms » Mon Mar 21, 2016 5:01 pm

This is a general question to help me determine who is best at building wood wheels. Do we have a wheelwright in the west coast area? If not, who is a good source for building wheels in the eastern area (any where east of the west coast)? I understand that the Graeber family (San Diego) does not build wheels any more. Is that a correct assumption? Please share your experience with wood wheel building either on this public forum or send me a PM. Any help is appreciated.

Try Jim Kahne (Connie), in West Linn, Oregon. Unless you're in a hurry. He does a quality job, in my opinion.

Stutzman's Wheel Shop in Baltic, Ohio are my favorite. High quality, reasonable prices, fast service.

Hello Phil, I chatted with Noah Stutzman and have sent him pictures of my wheel project. Waiting to hear back from him now. Thanks for your vote of confidence regarding Stutzman Wheel Shop.

Stutzman built new wheels for my '13 Ford and my '07 Cadillac. Top notch work.

Stutzman built two wood wheels for my 1920 IHC truck and later put 2 1/2 inch hard rubber tires on my IHC highwheeler. I was very happy with their work.
Please refrain from restoring the survivors

Update on wood wheel project; I am preparing the wheel hubs and rims for shipment to Stutzman and hope have the wheels built and ready for install by next summer. (On a side note.....the engine rebuilding process is just getting into motion. I am hoping to have that work completed by next summer.)
