fan for 1910 IHC j-30

I am in the early stages of my restoration of my 1910 IHC j-30. It was quickly apparent that I do not have an original fan. The one I have is smaller than I expected and from drawings I can see in the 1911 owner's manual it probablyhad a wire wrap around the outside of the blades. Additionally i can see a mark on my radiator that suggests that the original was about 15" diameter.

The pulley and blade mount seems to be ok so i am hoping I might be able to salvage that part.
I would add though that the bearing race has really seen a lot of miles.

Any suggestions on how I can go about finding/creating a new one?

Is this picture of the fan what your I-H engine currently has? If so, does the hub fit properly? What type of belt should run your fan? flat? round? cog? or conventional? Could you scrounge around and post a picture of what you would like to use that is the proper size and correct configuration? I am guessing that you live in the cowboy state of Wyoming?

From what I have been able to find out, I actually have the original fan. The mounting is for a flat belt and matches pictures sent from another j-30. What appears to have happened is that the aluminum "hoop" around the outer perimeter of the fan must have broken which the allowed a blade to touch the radiator.

Somewhere in the car's history, someone trimmed the outer piece off and shortened each blade.

I have since found that the original fan was actually 16" in diameter rather than the almost 13" size i now have.

The difficult part now however, is how can one be fabricated that is authentic to the original fan which was either made for the IHC in particular or rather was provided by British American Motors the manufacturer of the engine.

I understand now that the engine was used by a few other manufacturers and am wondering if possibly some other car's fan was identical.

This car is going to be quite the education.

Hello, You actually have the pattern in your hands. If you have an idea of how to attach the stiffening wire ring to the end of the blades. It should not be a big deal to remove the mounting rivets, trace out a pattern for the new full length blade. Configure and profile the new blade to match the old blade, attach the stiffening wire and you should be good to go. Aluminum is easy to work!

You have a very nice looking project car! Good for you! Is this car an original Wyoming car? You are very lucky to have such a good starting point. Does the car run?

It was easy to get started and run it through the gears but it is really worn out. Actually the car has spent the last 60+ years in Utah. Contrary to how it looks almost everything is badly worn. it will be a long process but I am really excited by it.
