Drilling Center of Rod

Postby MochetVelo » Thu Jun 25, 2015 6:49 pm

You may wish to drill through the center of a bolt or rod (to install a cotter pin, for example). There are specialized tools for this purpose, but a trick is to lay a straight piece of metal (like a 6" machinist rule) atop the rod (which you have secured in the drill press). Lower the bit until it touches the rule. Adjust the positioning until the rule sits straight, then drill the hole.
