A tip for painting wood wheels: When spraying with acrylic enamel, omit the hardener. This makes the paint more flexible as the wood shrinks and expands with humidity. With the additive, the paint is more resistant to wear on metal, but it tends to crack on wood parts. Always use a rotisserie when spraying wheels, and keep it running until your paint is set up. Here's a simple set-up I used:
