Picture 2 shows the right front of body. I think I can use the floorboard riser structure as a solid location to mount the cowling bracket.

Here is a couple of pictures of the last of the Locomobile four cylinder engine design. It is more advanced with a bore and stroke of 4-1/4 X 6, full pressure oiling, manganese bronze crankcase and five main bearings. The engine was built by Locomobile and used in Riker trucks from around 1917. This "Tip" is just for information relevant to Locomobile design and evolution. This engine could certainly be a "heart" for a future project.

Here is my "Tip" of the day. If you are restoring a Locomobile or would just like to do some research on Locomobile or Riker, contact the Bridgeport Public Library and ask for the Historical Department. They are most helpful and have a HUGE Locomobile Literature Archive. I can share a phone number if you contact me direct. I currently have a specific piece of relevant information for the 1909 and 1910 Locomobiles in progress at this time. I will share an update when I receive the information I have requested.

Good News and "Tip" of the day. The folks at the Bridgeport Public library are super accommodating. I heard back from them, they are preparing a DVD with my requested information scanned on it and will have it in the mail quickly. It will be nice to have a complete service manual for the 1909 Locomobile, with no missing pages!

I have need of a "Tip" that follows up an update that I will share. I just purchased a matching Warner clock to work with the 80 MPH Warner Autometer on the dash of the Locomobile. The "Tip" I need is for a reference to a good clock/instrument face restorer that can renew the face of the clock. The actual Warner clock is working and keeps time but should probably be serviced along with the face repair. I will post a picture of the Autometer now and follow up with a picture of the clock shortly.

As promised, I will post three pictures of the new Warner clock to use along with the Warner autometer as shown above. I do ask for a "TIP" for a good restoration source for the face of this new to me clock. I would also like an idea for the mounting bracket for the clock and autometer also.

Years ago I used Bob’s Speedometer to repair and restore gauges for my Overland. They did a beautiful job, but it was much more expensive than I imagined it would be.

I will check with Bob's shop. I have used them for restoration and set-up work for a speedo on another project. Did the do your faces restoration also? Would you share a photo of one of your instrument faces?

Sorry for the delay. Once I got oil pressure I had an unusual amount of oil leaks that I fixed one at a time. Talk about famine to feast! From the siteglass, the underdash copper line connecting the gauge to the firewall, although my right shoe is now nicely oiled and waterproofed! The worst were from the oil pump itself. There was one pretty shake thread in the aluminum pan, and alas, I guess taking it off and putting it on 27 times did it in and I had a good leak. Kind of a conundrum, as I didn't want to remove the oil pan since it was about the only thing that didn't leak! I was able to acutally drill, tap, and install a heli-coil in the pan with the pump removed. Not ideal, laying on my back looking up. Plus it was the first one I ever did, but by the grace of God and a crooked stick, it worked! I'm confident I got all the metal shavings out, and the tang from the heli-coil.

I have to get the starter turning over faster. That's the big problem now, and it's a killer. I spent $800 getting it rebuilt by a reputable shop in Portland, and it barely turns it over. Took it back and they said it tests fine. I'm not skilled in any way when it comes to electricity.

Nice update Jeff! awwhhh, If we didn't have a hard spot every once in a while none of us would be very tough! Lucky for you it was just an oil leak! I have been in a similar position except it was one of those pronounced "knocks" from the belly of the engine. My remedy was not pretty! On the slow cranking, do you have a healthy ground from the starter to the frame?

Jeff do a starter draw test to see how many amps the starter is drawing. That will let you know if the stater is working ok or you don’t have enough amps going to the starter for it to perform properly. Lack of amps going to starter is usually connection problems,battery etc. Let us know how you make out cheers pete

Hello Pete, Good idea you suggested. I do know if the starter has been properly rebuilt and it still will not crank as it should, the amps are not flowing. Jeff will get this issue resolved and away he will go. That is surely a good "TIP" or advice for the day.
