Hello:

I have a 1914 Jeffery four Model 93 with the USL starter/generator. It runs on 12V for starting then switches to 6V

Hello,

I am intrigued by this starter.

Found more on the site of the Old Motor, includes a nice explanatory picture.

I know it's out of your date range, but Member Mark Desch, MN has a 1924 Brewster with a beautifully functioning USL system.  It took a LOT of cleaning and correcting of previous wiring modifications, but that's all it took. It's a very impressive system. Lots of info in Dykes and other period sources.

Bruce Rimmer has a 24/12V USL starter generator on his 1914 Jeffery, functioning well last I knew.  Bruce has not been well

and the car has been sitting for a half dozen years.  It is now for sale of late. The 2 troublesome parts are the pot metal arms that hold the brushes and the regulator, which has a stack of carbon washers suspended in 3 glass rods about 1/4" diameter. They sometimes get so hot the rods sag, and the regulator ceases to work.  I think it stands for United Starting & Lighting Co.

Best

Jeff
