Is anyone making or shorting leather fan belts now. John Knox is out of business, TOO BAD, sorry to see a nice guy like him gone.
Don Luis
I had one made with the alligator clips on the end by Hudson Belting. They were helpful at picking the correct weight belt.
Thank you,
I saw Hudson's add while searching, I will contact them.
I made three new leather fan belts for my 1913 Reo. I was fortunate to have a roll of vintage 2" industrial belting leather given to me some years ago by a man who had started work in a belt-driven tool shop. When the shop went to independent powered machines, he snagged the roll of leather then gave it to me. With a strap cutter I cut them down to 7/8" width. Industrial belting leather is nearly impossible to find today. Leather belts for garments will not work as they stretch terribly. The belts I made have glued and stitched, scarphed ends, using 5-inch scarphs. Clipper lacing is not recommended as it can mar your pulleys. I hope you find this interesting. Paul Gockel
I agree about not using alligator clips. Find an Amish harness shop. They know what part of the hide to use that won't stretch.
