Car Museums and the Final Banquet

The last day of the Convention, the group went to Oxnard, California. Here there are two very interesting automotive museums.

First thing in the morning, we toured the Murphy Museum. At the Murphy Museum there are over forty cars displayed by many collectors from the local areas of Oxnard, Santa Barbara and Ventura. There is even a large model train layout to look at. The lady docents from the Oxnard Heritage Square came dressed in period costumes of the 1910 horseless carriage era. They sold baked goods and jams and told us about the vintage buildings of the area that have been moved to the Heritage Square Park.

Later in the morning, we visited the Mullin Museum. This Museum is filled with automobiles from the art deco 1930's era. Many of these gorgeous classic cars are winners of very prestigious automotive shows. In the mezzanine there were rare race cars and motorcycles on display.

Driving back to the Hotel we traveled past lush citrus groves of oranges and lemons. We also went past miles of greenhouses filled with boysenberry bushes.

We arrived back at the Hotel just in time for the President's Reception and final banquet. At the banquet, awards and speeches were given. The Marian Welch Award was presented to distinguished member Conrad Fletcher of Golden, Colorado. Thank yous were bestowed to all of the hard working volunteers that made this Convention possible. Finally, door prizes that were so generously given by our sponsors were won by lucky participants.
