The vehicle is a restored 1904 Holsman Model 3 runabout. This example would be considered a late 1904, with what is known as a later “Piano Body” style body. The early 1904’s featured a curved dashboard design, and the body design was revised mid-year, with the later cars after August, 1904 receiving the updated design. In 1904 there were only a reported 50 Holsman’s produced. Holsman’s represent the last of the “high wheeler” variant of the early horseless carriage. Advances in the automobile occurred around the Holsman, and the design and engineering of the vehicle grew more and more outdated. Unable to compete with other conventional automakers using more reliable engineering, Holsman production stopped around 1910. The vehicle is in very nice overall condition, and is currently on display in the temporary Horseless Carriage Club of America’s barn (The Steam Barn) at the Gilmore Car Museum.
