Who was Joyce Chase:
Joyce Chase of Middletown, CT, was 85 when she passed at home in October 2023. She was the wife of Jerry Chase for 63 years and high school sweetheart of more than 70 years.
Joyce and Jerry joined the HCCA in 1995. As with everything Joyce approached, she embraced the brass era car hobby with energy, enthusiasm and joy. Joyce & Jerry traveled the world in their antique automobiles, toured national parks, historical museums, donated their time and cars for charitable events, and most importantly to Joyce was the lifelong friendships she made along the way. She loved dressing in authentic period clothing and carrying on the historical importance of the preservation of the hobby.
In Joyce’s honor, the HCCA has established the Joyce Chase Award to celebrate a woman who brings the same spirit and energy that Joyce brought to every tour. This individual would exemplify HCCA’s values of preserving originality or restoring these automobiles to their original condition, using them for their original purpose of driving and completing tours, and promoting the preservation of their historical value. Joyce did this every day on every tour for the past 2+ decades.
